You may be thinking,"What's composting, and how does that help the earth?". Well, lets say you want to get rid of an apple core and you happen to be out side, If you were to through it in the street you would be called a litter bug and be guilty of littering. If you were to simply toss it in your compost pile, then you would be called a recourse full citizen and would be considered doing a good deed. It not only saves you money on having to buy fertilizer for plants, but you are also helping the environment. Compost is made from food scraps, old fruit, vegetable peelings, and even paper. It can be made from anything that is Biodegradable.Composting your biodegradable scraps keeps trash out of the landfill, while creating a rich soil which you can use to fertilize your garden or anything that grows from the ground. Compost can increase your plant growth and since there are no chemicals in your fertilizer it is also safer to use on your plants. Composting is a fairly simple process, but there are some important steps that can make your compost safer and more successful, so make sure to follow as manny as possible.
NOTE: consider the following, any animal scat must be removed . Dog and cat scat will compost, but is not recommended for it attracts flies and not only you will be contaminating your compost, but also be ruining the air around the surrounding area .Your neighbors might not be as pleased if you use this in your compost, neither will the health department, if you are using it for your garden which may or may not have vegetables which you consume. The same for cow manure, it's just not recommended altho you are free to do what ever you wish, but pleas for your safety keep this in mind.
You will need a 4x4 wood peaces.A foundation, dry leaves, an empty bucket,a shovel, water and your food scraps.
Step 1.
Select a spot for your compost. Composting requires time, so choose an area that you won't need to use for several months. A good place can be some where in your back yard. Now keep in mind that it is compost, so you may want a place where you wouldn't care for decomposing to take place. Step 2. Start digging a 3x3 squared hole, you can make it as wide and deep as you chose, but for starters its good to begin with 3x3. Step 3. Get the wood peaces and places and place them as if measuring your foundation, simply nail them together and place on top of the 3x3 squared hole. Step 4. Make sure to have some soil in composting foundation, or the hole, after that grab the bucket fill it half way with dry leaves, grass and twigs. |
Step 5.
Take 2 1/2 cups of water and pour it over the soil. Step 6. Grab your shovel and shift the soil, so that the dry leaves, grass, and twigs are sorted out evenly. Step 7. Now that you have accomplished the foundation, take the scraps of food you have salvaged and recycle them!Yes, you can now chunk that apple core and feel great about it.See you can have it both ways, a hot sunny day and the trash is too far, so just toss it in the compost, this way everybody wins. Step 8. Now you are finished, not quite, see compost needs to be shifted periodically in order to make sure that the food scraps decomposes evenly and transformed in to nutrient rich fertilizer. Try to shift the compost at least 3 times a month, or once every 2 weeks. This should be a good project and remember have fun and spread the word. |
"RECYCLING IS COOL, AND OK."
Paragraph by Angie Ochoa and Cody Franks
interview by Angie Ochoa

This is the interview on our friend Cody Franks, hope you enjoy.
Q: "Cody tell us, why are you so elided and talk to me about the excitement you're feeling right now." A:"I am very happy that our community has gotten these Blue garbage cans, but I found out that they are not for garbage at all, they are actually to help citizens RECYCLE." Cody has mentioned the Blue Recycle Bins seen all over the community. I understand that the insight has grown over the past few days, on my friend Cody and on the comunity. It seems that lately people are beginning to take more intrest in Recycling and going Green Over the Past months.I see this as a change for every one things that would normally be ignored are now being taken care of and it seems to me that students are helping to keep the class rooms neater and cleaner by simply picking up paper, that was once on the floor , or helping the teacher set the books back on to a shelf. Q:Cody, what do you think about this new change?" A:"I'm so happy that this is going on right now in the community and that I'm going to be a part of it. This is a good lesson for both all of the kids and for the adults. Recycling is a good thing for the environment and I believe this is a very great idea." As you now know Cody Franks approves recycling and so lets continue our interview on the juicy gossip and all the rage of recycling. Q:"Cody now that you have applied the change in to your life what has changed in your life?" A:"Now i'm planting a garden in my back yard and this is going to be a heathy thing for me and my family. It is a nice thing for me to see and experience hard work." |
This was an interesting discovery on our friend Cody Franks, as you see any one can make a change. It just takes a little work and determination. Now to get back with Cody Franks.
Q:What would you like to say to your fans?" A:"This is amazing, thanks mom and dad for doing this great thing for me. It may not seem as much at the time, but I know that this is going to be one of the things that I will remember for a long time. I want for anyone who is reading this to go out and make a change. WOW, now that was encouragement! This is all very true and is the reason that me and cody decided to make a project on living Green and making a change one person at a time.Sadly,it is time to wrap up the Intervew, but remember anyone I mean anyone can change the world. As rock band, My ChemicalRomance song NaNaNA quotes,"Everybody wants to change the world but no one,no one wanna try, wanna try, wanna try.", Is partly true.Me and My friends plan to change that ,so that the world will one day be better and healthier for all of us. Q:Cody after me sharing my opinions with you, what are your opinions on the matter?" A:"Well I agree, It after all it is our home, we all as a hole live on earth, this may seem like I'm trying to be captain obvious, but honestly it has taken projects like this for me to realize how much we need to take our environment a little more seriously and that we all play a part it doesn't matter how big or small." You read it hear first! Recycling is cool and ok, so pass it on and share your own opinions at our student blog. |

The Earth is unlike every other planet in our solar system. It's also the only planet that we know of that is capable of supporting life.Earth is not just another planet orbiting in the mist of space, it is not some ordinary grain of a speck among specks. It may not be the largest planet ever found in astronomical history, it also may not be the smallest, but it is because of this precise reason that we should cherish it all the more. Earth is not ordinary! Earth is special and should be given gratitude for its capabilities to hold an existence of not just one, but manny living organisms. We as humans are by nature greedy, but we also have compassion and a sense of understanding in a way that our brains birth ideas which are then communicated with spectrum of beauty creating awe. I see that both our times and lives have abruptly changed, I know that things are not as they use to be. I also know that we have become engrossed with our selves in a matter in which nothing, but our selves seems to be of any importance, or deserving of any recognition to see with in it some type of value. I often look around, and as I look, I see an the more I see the more I realize, I am truly blind. I am blind for I, like many others, lack the ability to see, to see things for what a treasure they are. I have recently gotten my self some glasses, I can see! These glasses are special glasses you can't find them in any store. My glasses are made of a material which only the individual can find within themselves. That martial, or element is enlightenment. I dissevered this jewel as I looked around, and because I did I can now see, I see beyond any object put in front of me, I see farther than the Bald Eagle, or the Hawk. I finally can see the grass with it's manny shades of green, not one human language can ever write down all the shades of greens, nor the shades of blues, reds, yellows, browns, oranges, pinks, and purples. The Earth is ours and we are the Earth's.We decide what is to come and we have the power in our numbers, but our Earth is only one, yet it continues to shield us and it continues to be our home.

Facts about ♼ur Earth
Did you know?...
facts by http://www.planetsforkids.org/
- It is the only planet that has an atmosphere containing 21 percent oxygen.
- It is the only planet that has liquid water on its surface.
- It is the only planet in the solar system that has life.
- The Earth is the only inner planet (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) to have one large satellite, the Moon. Mars has two very tiny moons. Mercury and Venus have none.
- The Earth is fragile. Its surface is split into plates (tectonic plates) which float on a rocky mantle – the layer between the surface of the earth, its crust, and its hot liquid core. The inside of the Earth is active andearthquakes, volcanoes and mountain building takes place along the boundaries of the tectonic plates.
- As a result of the Earth’s geological activity (the volcanoes and earthquakes) the surface of the Earth has far fewer craters than the surface of planets such as Mars, Venus and Mercury or the surface of the Moon. The craters have sunk down or been worn away by wind and rain over millions of years.
- When viewed from outer space much of the Earth’s surface cannot be seen because of clouds of water vapour. The water vapour makes the Earth, when seen from outside, into a brilliant shining orb, as you can see in Figure 1.
